Saz`Iso - Andrea Goertler

Last Saturday, before the concert, Peter Morgan Christensen, the producer at Göteborgs Konserthus, showed me the new Albanian Saz’Iso album. On the cover, I noticed it said: Produced by Joe Boyd. I was surprised and told Peter that I had interviewed Joe Boyd ten years ago while preparing lectures on world music.

A few hours later, after the concert, during the signing session, the tour manager of the band approached me. I congratulated her and said how impressed I was that the record had been produced by Joe Boyd — one of the greatest producers I’ve always admired — and that I was happy to have had the chance to interview him.

“Aha!” she replied. “I didn’t know you had interviewed my husband!”

Her name is Andrea Goertler, and she told me that she is Joe Boyd’s wife — and that they had produced the record together.

What a coincidence. The world is small sometimes.
